Cornerstone Elects to Accept Classic Learning Test Scores for Admission

News Oct. 25, 2018

Cornerstone University has expanded its standardized test score requirement for traditional undergraduate students to include the Classic Learning Test (CLT). Previously, the university required first-year college applicants to submit either an ACT or SAT score.

“For the past several years, we have noticed more future students of Cornerstone exploring alternatives to the SAT and ACT standardized tests,” Lisa Link, executive director of enrollment, said. “I’m thrilled we now have an alternative exam to encourage students to consider taking.”

Established in 2015, the CLT assesses students’ knowledge and skills in the areas of grammar and writing, verbal reasoning and quantitative reasoning. The entrance exam permits participants two hours to complete the test, having defined time limits set for each section.

In addition to serving prospective and incoming students, the inclusion of this new entrance exam as part of the university’s admission requirements reflects shared educational values. The CLT’s emphasis on classic texts uniquely aligns with Cornerstone’s prioritization of the great books—influential works from the Western canon—as a guiding framework for its Creativity and Innovation Honors Institute.
